Naples Florida Real Estate: Mandatory Septic Tank Replacement?

Mandatory Septic Tank Replacement?

ATTENTION NAPLES FLORIDA PROPERTY OWNERS WITH SEPTIC SYSTEMS!  There may be some new changes coming our way regarding selling property with septic systems.  This could effect areas like Pine Ridge, Livingston Woods, Isle of Capri, Keewaydin Island, Logan Woods and other areas where septic systems exist.  Please read the information below provided by Maya Thomas a Realtor located in the Keys for more information.

Via Maya Thomas (Exit Realty Old Island Key West):

This will affect Central Florida more than the Florida Keys, but If the Florida Department of Health has their way new property owners will have 18 months from the close of escrow to replace a septic system.  Buyers must get a building permit prior to closing.   DOH wants all septic tanks to be inspected for nitrogen levels when a home sells.  The inspection could trigger a mandatory replacement.   The cost for a new system is could be as much as $14,000. The DOH plan would allow an exemption for any community being attached to a public sewer by 2012.

We have been dealing with septic issues for years up here in Mass. They are a pain in the rear!

We dealt with them in Texas too.  They can be a real hassle.  There are a few communities around town that simply need to switch to sewer.  It's quite bizarre as to why they're still on septic.
