Naples Florida Real Estate: Naples, Florida Real Estate Blog Works!

Naples, Florida Real Estate Blog Works!

This one's kinda funny!  Since I joined Active Rain last August, I've been encouraging colleagues in Naples, Florida to join Active Rain.  I gotta say, it's been kind of a tough sell.  Not because Active Rain isn't great (because we all know Active Rain is GREAT) but because blog is in fact a 4 letter word and let's face it, it's a scary word for many agents because they don't quite get it like the current Active Rain members do.

So after talking with one of my colleagues forever about the powers of blogging on Active Rain, go figure, I finally get him to join and start blogging.

It may have been because every time we've talked lately he's asked if I had anything going on and I've replied, "yes" nearly every time.  I'm writing a new offer on this area or I just closed one in that area or I have people coming in town this weekend and I'm showing xyz.

It's been really fun selling Naples, Florida real estate lately, let me tell you!

As I was saying, my buddy finally gave in and asked for help setting up his profile etc. on Active Rain. So we're sitting in his office typing away on his computer when another colleague comes in and says, "what are you guys doing"?  My buddy turns to my other colleague and says, "I'm starting a blog".  The other guy replies, well...what are you doing that for?  I said, because it works!  I've put $$$ this much under contract this year due to my blogging.  He replies, that looks like too much work to me and walks off.

About a week later, I brought him an offer on a listing he's had listed for over a year. It looks like it's going to work out too.

Moral of the story...Blogging is alot of work.  Not only do you have to think of great things to write about, then you have to write all these contracts and deposit slips to the bank.  Write, Write, Write....sigh...what can I blog about next! :)

Serving my purpose through content rich informaton about Naples, Florida real estate!

Best Regards!

JOHN:  pssst....I know this but I don't want to completely baffle the rest of my colleagues.  Let's start small...and get them on board and then we'll let the whole cat out of the bag! :)

Those deposit slips must be SUCH a chore for you, Shannon.  And the contracts!  I hope you are not getting writer's cramps from endorsing your checks, poor girl!

Great job Shannon! I've noticed also, that it is hard trying to explain this blogging thing to colleagues, just as you said "because they don't quite get it like the current Active Rain members do."

Most agents don't have a clue that this can help them grow their business and it is hard to explain how.  From the look on their faces, I feel like I am speaking Greek!

Shannon, I have tried to get fellow agents to join AR and one person did join!  Then, he realized that he would have to keep blogging and he said it was just too much work so he doesn't want to do it.  OK, I guess I will keep blogging and getting the clients!

MIKE:  Hey good to see you too! It's been a long time! :)

KATHY:  I know how you feel!  Greek or maybe Chinese.  They get more interested when you show them proven results! :)

ROBERTA:  I've had that happen too!  I've referred 8 people.  I'm to a point now where I quit sending the link and just manually set it up for them.  I'm here for help, advice, questions...but ya still gotta write the post yourself! :)

Shannon:  You and me both!  Trying to get peers to blog is very difficult.  I know the benefits but, there is such a stigma about blogging!  Good job getting one of them to start--keep up the great job in Naples too!

I have an agent friend who I KNOW would be a great contributor, but he just says "I don't have time for that".  Sad, because I think he would be a powerhouse with an internet presence.

I love that blogging is gaining acceptance as a successful practice within the industry while the majority of agents choose to ignore the trend.  I am finding that I am getting fewer blank stares when I mention blogging and more excuses for not blogging.  This keeps up and John Q. Public will get the memo that the smart agents are utilizing a blog in their marketing efforts and we'll have the domain (pun definitely intended) all to ourselves.  I like to help other agents, but if they don't want to hop on board, you won't see me crying.  Keep killin it down there, Shannon!

Can't count the number of people I have encouraged to spend time on AR who just blew it off.  People think the old way of doing RE is going to be effective... wait for the phone to ring, slap a magnetic sign on your car, and the business will bowl you over.  However, I do notice a bit more interest in 'that blogging thing' I am doing now, especially since my main blog was written up in the newspaper last week.

Shannon, I love Bob Stewart's comment above.  A number of my colleagues know about my blog and blogging efforts yet choose to forego the practice themselves.  Oh well, I look forward to laughing all the way to the bank.

Shannon you sure are generous to be giving away the best kept secret to agents in your own office. I have invited lots of people and don't mind sharing but wouldn't do it with my direct competitors.

I get a blank stare or the rolled eyes when I mention blogging. Doubters. I taught two classes on blogging and the response was soooo enthusiatic and everyone was so excited to start blogging. But then only a few actually signed up and started doing it. It is a lot of work, but it's easy and it's free and it works. Duh.

SHANNON - You have proven why it is possible to encourage your competition to blog, and not really feel any negative impact from doing so.  The average agent will not spend time doing this, even if they are not busy with real estate.  That being said, I don't encourage local agents to join because I don't want to compete with them in the Google rankings.

Ah to have writers cramp from filling out to many deposit slips. Have you inquired about direct deposit.

Shannon, all I have to say is that the four letter word "blog" has brought about another one that I like as well: "cash".
